Welcome to The Turnaround!
Week One: God’s Vision and Desire is Generational
Insight
Moses was in a panic; God had just ordered him to go tell the most powerful man in the world and tell Him to let His people go! But what if God wasn’t who Moses thought He was? In Moses’ day, names were supposed to be a reflection of what that person was like. For reassurance, Moses asked God what His name was. God replied with a riddle,
“I am who I am.” (Yahweh)
How can Moses trust that? How can the One who has all power permit His people to be slaves? How can the just judge be merciful? How can the truth allow falsehood? How can love permit hate? How can wisdom permit foolishness?
These questions cannot be answered in a way that we understand completely, but we can trust the One Who said it.
God felt that all that Moses needed to know about Him was that He is what He is. Knowing God’s name, Yahweh, God sent Moses against the most powerful man on earth.
When we become His child, we are called by His name. His name is our name too.
All that Moses needed to deliver the children of Israel was to know that ‘I AM’, Yahweh, was certainly with him. Like Moses we are sent to a lost and dying world. All we need to know is that His Holy Spirit is in us, His Spirit empowers us, I AM is with us and sends us to the spiritually enslaved and dead around us. He is after all the great I AM.
Turnaround Questions
What kind of slavery to sin do I see around me?
Considering the slavery to sin around me, how is Yahweh calling me to set people free?
Prayer
Father in heaven, You are what You are. I don’t really understand that, but I choose to trust You. You are what You are. You said that I am called by Your name. Your name is my name too. I invite You to empower and use me to set boys and girls around me free from their slavery to sin. Empower me to live up to Your name. Amen
