Welcome to The Turnaround!
Introduction
An inheritance is a gift we leave for others, especially our family. Psalm 103:17-18, tells us about God’s everlasting love and righteousness for those who fear Him and how that passes onto their children’s children. This means that in God’s economy, parents pass along godly spiritual influence. The Bible also calls Christians to pass along physical resources to our descendents. In this way, godly values and the physical resources needed to influence the most people possible with Biblical principles are passed down by godly parents. What a powerful concept!
Insight
Psalm 103:17-18 says, “But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children—with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.” This verse reminds us that for parents who fear God, His righteousness is in principle passed on to their children and beyond. Though this is not absolute it is a powerful way to live which promotes godly values multi-generationally when we actively disciple our progeny and pass on financial resources to add to their own so the righteous can increase their influence over time.
Let’s look at some other Scriptures that help us understand why we should leave a legacy, both spiritual and physical, for our children:
- Proverbs 13:22: “A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.” A good person thinks about the future and leaves resources to their children and grandchildren.
- Proverbs 20:7: “The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.” When we live honestly and do what is right, our children can see the example and follow it and be blessed.
- 1 Chronicles 28:8: “So now I charge you in the sight of all Israel and of the assembly of the Lord, and in the hearing of our God: Be careful to follow all the commands of the Lord your God, that you may possess this good land and pass it on as an inheritance to your descendants forever.” By following God’s commands, we can pass on both spiritual and financial blessings to our descendants.
- Jeremiah 32:39: “I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me and that all will then go well for them and for their children after them.” God promises to give the Israelites a united heart to fear Him, which will result in good for them and for their children.

Prayer
Dear God,
Thank You for Your everlasting love and for choosing us as saints to be saved from your wrath on our sin by your grace. Help us to live in a way that pleases You and to leave a legacy of faith, love, and honesty to our children as we teach them to fear you. Help us also to leave financial resources so that our righteous offspring can have greater influence in your Kingdom. Give us the courage to follow Your commands and to share Your love with others. And may your Kingdom grow multi-generationally as you work through us!
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
