Day 37: Remembering God’s Goodness Keeps our Heart

April 4, 2025

Deuteronomy 11:1-7

“Therefore you shall love the Lord your God, and keep His charge, His statutes, His judgments, and His commandments always. Know today that I do not speak with your children, who have not known and who have not seen the chastening of the Lord your God, His greatness and His mighty hand and His outstretched arm— His signs and His acts which He did in the midst of Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to all his land; what He did to the army of Egypt, to their horses and their chariots: how He made the waters of the Red Sea overflow them as they pursued you, and how the Lord has destroyed them to this day; what He did for you in the wilderness until you came to this place; and what He did to Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben: how the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, their households, their tents, and all the substance that was in their possession, in the midst of all Israel— but your eyes have seen every great act of the Lord which He did.'

Introduction

Have you heard of the song “Goodness of God?”
“All my life You have been faithful, all my life You have been so, so good… And every day that I am able, I will sing of the goodness of God.”

This song is one of my favorites, as it reminds us that God has been faithful through every season of our life. If we take time to look back, we’ll see His fingerprints—moments when He provided, protected, and carried us through.

In Deuteronomy 11, Moses reminds the Israelites that they saw God’s miracles firsthand. They walked through the Red Sea, ate manna from heaven, and were led by a pillar of fire. But would they remember? Or would they forget and let doubt take over?

Insight

I’ve chosen to view obstacles as mentors that set me up for God’s miracles. One way I strengthen my faith is by keeping a Goodness of God Journal.

Some call it a gratitude journal or miracle journal, but for me, it’s a record of God’s faithfulness. I write down a problem, challenge, or need with a date, and next to it, I record how God answered. Some entries are short; others are longer. But no matter how much time passes, I can always look back and see that God has never failed me.

The Israelites had miracle after miracle, but they still doubted. When they faced the giants in the Promised Land, they forgot the Red Sea, the manna, and the fire. And we do the same when we focus more on new challenges than past victories.

That’s why remembering is key—it keeps our faith strong and our thoughts focused on Christ. When we share our stories, our faith is stirred, and others are encouraged. The Bible says we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony (Revelation 12:11). The more we declare God’s goodness, the more our faith grows.

Turnaround Question

What challenge has God brought you through?

Write it down, thank Him, and share it with someone today!

What are ways you can teach children about times God has been faithful?

Prayer

Dear God, You have been so, so good to us! Thank You for loving us and never leaving us. Help us to always remember Your kindness and share Your miracles with others. We pray for children everywhere—help them know You, trust You, and see Your goodness in their lives. Give us courage to tell our friends about You so that more people can know Your love. Bless every child, teacher, and leader guiding the next generation. Let our lives shine for You, and may we always sing of Your goodness! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
