Welcome to The Turnaround
Introduction
Welcome to Day 26 of The Turnaround’s 52 Days of Prayer. As we take time this week to Look, Mourn, and Confess to the Lord, we ask Him to inspire the older generation to rebuild for the children of our nation. Let’s reflect on the state of a culture without God and mourn how far we’ve strayed from His ways.
Insight
A.W. Tozer said, “A low view of God is the cause of a hundred lesser evils, but a person with a high view of God is relieved from ten thousand temporal problems.” This verse from Hosea paints a picture of how a low view of God leads to idolatry and moral decay. Idolatry doesn’t just affect individuals but ripples through families, communities, and generations.
When we fail to see God for who He truly is, we embrace behaviors that harm us. But when we understand Him rightly, we mourn the distance between His ways and the world’s ways. This understanding also empowers us to take action by fixing our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). Only by walking in His ways can we experience the abundant life He offers, here and now.
Today, just as in Hosea’s time, women and children are subject to the corrupt desires of society. Today this includes oversexualization, child sex trafficking, and abortion. This is a result of a culture that has lost its knowledge of God. We need God desperately—and we need to know Him deeply.
Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” When we reverently understand God, wisdom and grace flourish in our culture. Our children grow up yearning for the Kingdom of God, becoming salt and light to the world (Matthew 5:13-16).
True knowledge of God changes our cravings and appetites. If our culture truly knew God, we would see a transformation from the inside out. God loves us too much to leave us in our desperate state. Though His heart is grieved by the world’s evil, He is slow to anger and delights in mercy (Exodus 34:6; Micah 7:18). His desire is for us to know Him, walk in His ways, and experience the abundant life He has for us.
Turnaround Question
Every generation must answer this question: Do we truly want to know God?
Are we living like it?
Are our homes places that pursue knowledge of God or are we pursuing fulfillment in worldly things?
Let’s train our children to pursue the life abundant with God. Let’s show them that true delight and contentment are found only in Him.
Prayer
LORD Jesus, we want to know You. We cannot walk in Your Kingdom without You. Help us to fix our eyes on You rather than the fleeting pleasures of the world. Correct our low view of You, and grow our reverence and awe. Thank You for Your mercy and for showing us a better way to live. Change our cravings and appetites to reflect Your will. Bring a renewed awe and love for You back into our culture, starting with our homes. Convict us where we’re chasing after the world’s ways rather than Yours. We love You, LORd, and ask You to help us love You more. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
